Manifestos

SlutWalk* Lisbon – for sexual self-determination in all circumstances

*SLUT – hussy, shameless, loose, vixen, easy

In January 2011 a Toronto police officer said women should not dress provocatively if they want to avoid being raped. SlutWalk Lisbon joins the wave of indignation that this statement caused all over the world.
We totally refuse to blame women in situations of sexual assault. We refuse the complicity with the aggression and the aggressor, whether by silence or benevolence. We refuse the objectification and commodification of women’s bodies. Let the laws be changed, let the aggressors be changed. Change the patriarchal culture that tells women not to be raped, instead of telling men not to rape.
Change the dominant morality according to which we are all sluts, whether we are married, single, divorced or widowed, heterosexual or lesbians, bisexuals, asexual, with or without mates, monogamous or not, with or without children. Sluts are all women who don’t inhibit gestures, emotions, desires or wills, who dress, talk and live according to their own rules, who are not subdued to the dominant morality.
If a slut – hussy, shameless, loose, vixen, easy – is a woman who decides what to do with her own body and her sexuality and is a woman who seeks pleasure, then we are all sluts!
We don’t want sexist pick-up lines, paternalism nor sexual violence. We say no, for better citizenship. We say no, for better democracy. We say no, for more freedom.

If I show cleavage … No means No!
If I wear those trousers you like so much … No means No!
If I wear a burqa … No means No!
If I sleep with whomever I want … No means No!
If I’m a virgin … No means No!
If I cross that street … No means No!
If we go drinking … No means No!
If I feel vulnerable … No means No!
If I’m handicapped … No means No!
If I go out with the biggest sluts … No means No!
If I slept with you yesterday … No means No!
If I’m a sex worker … No means No!
If you’re my boss … No means No!
If we are married or mates … No means No!
If I’m your patient … No means No!
If we’re related…No means No!
If I’m an illegal immigrant … No means No!
If I have polyamorous relationships … No means No!
If I’m a hotel worker … No means No!
If you have doubts whether that was a yes, then … No means No!
If you’re a priest, imam, rabbi or pujari … No means No!
If I kiss another woman in the middle of the street … No means No!
If I’m Brazilian, Cape Verdean, Angolan or from another colonized country … No means No!
If I have female breasts and a penis … No means No!
If I said yes earlier but I’m no longer into it … No means No!
If I’m a housemaid … No means No!
If I love porn … No means No!
If I hitchhike … No means No!
If we’re at a swing, sex or BDSM party … No means No!
If we already opened the condom … No means No!

NO is always NO. When it’s YES, there are no ambiguities or doubts because we know what we want and we know how to say it clearly.
